The University of Iowa

IMPORTANT: The Optical Science and Technology Center and Microfabrication Facility are being retired after fall 2018 and their services reconfigured under the new Iowa Center for Research, Exploration, and Advanced Technology in Engineering and Sciences (Iowa-CREATES) and Materials Analysis, Testing, and Fabrication (MATFab) in the Iowa Advanced Technology Laboratories (IATL) in spring 2019. As a result, the OSTC/UIMF site will eventually be taken down. Until then, please visit the Iowa-CREATES Website at https://iowacreates.research.uiowa.edu/, or read more about the new center at https://research.uiowa.edu/impact/news/ui-gears-new-improved-research-center-engineering-and-physical-sciences.

Converging Science and Technology at the Nanoscale

University of Iowa Microfabrication Facility (UIMF)

IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Chapter
Thursday, January 22nd, 2015
Topic: The University of Iowa Microfabrication Facility
Converging Science and Technology at the Nanoscale
OPTICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER
(Includes tours of MBE Lab and Laser Lab)

Nanofabrication is the meeting ground of engineering, biology, physics, medicine and chemistry. Most of these disciplines converge at the nanoscale towards the same building blocks, principles, tools of investigation and fabrication.
The University of Iowa Microfabrication Facility (UIMF) is an open-research facility serving the academic, industrial and governmental researchers across campus and beyond. Hands-on demos in the UIMF labs, including tours of the Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) and Laser Labs. Visitors will wear cleanroom suits to visit the UIMF and MBE labs. Hands-on demonstrations on various tools, including, Thin-film deposition, Reactive Ion Etching, Lithography and Nanoimprint. Speaker: Aju Jugessur received a Ph.D. degree in Optoelectronics, Electronic engineering, with a focus on Nanofabrication, from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at McGill University, Canada. He is currently the Director of the University of Iowa Microfabrication Facility and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
