IMPORTANT: The Optical Science and Technology Center and Microfabrication Facility are being retired after fall 2018 and their services reconfigured under the new Iowa Center for Research, Exploration, and Advanced Technology in Engineering and Sciences (Iowa-CREATES) and Materials Analysis, Testing, and Fabrication (MATFab) in the Iowa Advanced Technology Laboratories (IATL) in spring 2019. Microfluidic Chip for Bio-Medical Applications

The advances in micro- and nano-fabrication technologies are expected to open up new possibilities and applications in medical diagnostics, therapy, drug delivery and regenerative medice, in particular, enable by microfluidic chip technologies.

Participants will:

  • Fabricate and Test a Microfluidic Chip and Take it home.
  • Obtain Hand-on time on Nanofabrication Tools in dust-free labs.
  • See in action the manufacturing technologies involved in the next generation of nano-devices, from DNA sequencing and Cancer detection chips to LED devices, Solar cells, and Smart phones.
